Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, La Colombaia
Ripe, warm and generous on the nose with plum and cherry aromas and hints of dried fruits. Full bodied and richly flavoured with rich berry and plum fruit, supple tannins and a spicy finish, with the characteristic dry bite of good Amarone.
This long established Veronese family company, headed by Giorgio Montresor, is producing wines which increasingly rival the offerings of the region’s more fashionable names. The estate wines, from 100 ha of vineyards in Valpolicella and Garda, offer remarkable value for money, particularly the Capitel della Crosara vineyard near Negrar which produces fine, richly-flavoured Ripasso and a generous, classically-styled Amarone with great concentration and texture.
Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes grown in Montresor’s Valpolicella Classico vineyards. The grapes are hand harvested at the end of October.
Perfect with mature hard cheeses and blue cheeses. Also excellent with game and mature beef.
